Forest sightings
Sunday 30th March 2008 On the first day of BST, it actually felt spring-like, with plenty of sun and temperatures up to 14 o C. A hunt for Lesser Spots was unsuccessful, but we did see the following: Highnam Woods Three Green Woodpeckers , 15 Redwings and a singing male Blackcap . Brierley Four Hawfinches and c10 Bramblings (one male in almost full breeding plumage) feeding amongst the leaf-litter. Crabtree Hill/Woorgreens Two Hawfinches (a male and female) near the Woorgreens car park, also 20 Siskins feeding on conifers near the top of the hill where the forest roads meet, several singing Goldcrests , a singing male Treecreeper and a Goshawk soaring, seen from the main road as we were in the car travelling towards Cinderford.
